Home-Start Monmouthshire

Home-Start Monmouthshire

Home-Start Monmouthshire is an independent registered charity that supports struggling families, with at least one child under five, living in Monmouthshire.

The small staff team recruits and trains local volunteers and carefully matches them with local families who need support. The scheme is managed by a board of volunteer trustees and is responsible for raising all its own running costs.

What is so Special about Home-Start?

Home-Start is committed to offering support, practical help and friendship to families in their local community who are experiencing stress or difficulties.

The scheme offers a unique core service, recruiting and training volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit families in their own home who have at least one child under five years of age to offer informal, friendly and confidential support to give children the best possible start in life.

Funding

We are delighted to report that we have been awarded funds from the following sources to keep the service running in 2018-19:

Abergavenny and Monmouth Town Councils, Aviva Community Fund, Children in Need, Chepstow and Caldicot Lions, Llantrisant Community Council, Monmouthshire Housing Association, Monmouth Rotary, Portskewett Community Council, Tintern Community Council, Trellech Community Council.

Our Big Lottery grant for our Healthy Minds Healthy Families project comes to an end on the 31st July, so regrettably we will no longer be able to offer our in depth assessments after that date.

Due to the loss of our Families First Grant from Monmouthshire County Council, we will have to use £35,000 of our own reserves this year to make up the budget shortfall, which leaves us with only a small termination fund. We will be actively looking for further sources of funding throughout the year to help with this situation.

Each year we need to find about £5,000 from our own fundraising to support local families, so if you are able to help by attending one of our events or by organising your own, it would really help.
