Home-Start Monmouthshire is an independent registered charity that supports struggling families, with at least one child under five, living in Monmouthshire.

The small staff team recruits and trains local volunteers and carefully matches them with local families who need support. The scheme is managed by a board of volunteer trustees and is responsible for raising all its own running costs.

What is so Special about Home-Start?

Home-Start is committed to offering support, practical help and friendship to families in their local community who are experiencing stress or difficulties.

The scheme offers a unique core service, recruiting and training volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit families in their own home who have at least one child under five years of age to offer informal, friendly and confidential support to give children the best possible start in life.

We are delighted to report that we have been awarded funds from the following sources to keep the service running in 2016-17:

Volunteering in Wales, Families First via Monmouthshire County Council, Hoggin the Bridge, Abergavenny and Caldicot Town Councils, Mitchel Troy Community Council, The Woodward Trust, Gibbs Trust, Asda Carrier Bag Community Award, Wales and the Home-Start UK Army Central Fund. We also have a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to run our Healthy Minds-Healthy Families Project. Also recent funding received from BBC Children in Need and Monmouthshire Housing Association.

Each year we need to find about £5,000 from our own fundraising to support local families, so if you are able to help by attending one of our events or by organising your own, it would really help.

We now start the funding search for 2017-18!!

The next Volunteer Preparation Course starts on Wednesday 8th March. If you feel able to volunteer for us, or know of someone who may be interested in volunteering, please get in contact with either Pam Lloyd (Scheme Manager) or Kate Swanson.
