Home-Start Monmouthshire celebrates 5 year anniversary with the Gwent Wildlife Trust

To mark our 5 year anniversary this year we teamed up with the Gwent Wildlife Trust, to plant a coppice of 100 trees, up at Wyeswood Common, where they are trying to create habitat pathways.

Julia Gregson our newly welcomed ambassador came along and officially opened the newly planted coppice and helped Trustees, Volunteers and one of the Home-Start Families plant the last 5 trees.

We hope that in the future families will be able to visit the coppice to watch the trees develop and also arrange education days jointly with the Gwent Wildlife Trust.

Donation provides staff training for Home Start

A DONATION of £1,750 from Monmouth Rotary to Home-Start Monmouthshire will go towards valuable training of Volunteers.

Home-Start Monmouthshire manager, Pam Lloyd said the donation will fund future courses.

She said: “It’s going to run a training course to train our volunteers and to pay some of their expenses when they are visiting families.

“This is going to support a training course at the beginning of the next financial year.

“At the moment we have not got enough money to support our project in 2017 and 2018 so this has really kickstarted our project.”

The course consists of training volunteers for when they go out into the community.

Mrs Lloyd said: “All our volunteers have to do what we call a preparation course which is 40 hours before they can go out and volunteer with the family.”

This donation is just one of the many made by Monmouth Rotary and Paul Sherrington from the group said Home-Start is exactly the type of organisation they try to support.

He said: “This is all about helping Home-Start because they help others to help themselves.

“It’s great to help group like this that are helping families and also the young people in the community move forward.”
